Sandigan Kaalaman: FAMOUS 1920’S SCULPTOR’S GRAVE AT SANTA MARIA, BULACAN (11.07.24)

The grave of a famous sculptor believed to be famous in the 1920s that lies in the public cemetery of Our Lady of Mt. has not been visited for decades. Carmel in Pulong Buhangin, Santa Maria, Bulacan.

Engraved on the tombstone is the name Inocencio S. Gallemit Sr., who was born on December 28, 1902, passed away on January 30, 1929 and his tombstone reads: "Inventor and Sculptor."

According to the information gathered by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Inocencio Gallemit, a sculptor from Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte known for his works "Blood Compact," a work of art depicting Sikatuna and Legazpi; "Bust of Teodora Alonzo," a statue of the mother of Dr. Jose Rizal; and several reproduction works such as "Triumph of Science Over Death" and "Prometheus Bound."

Currently, Gallemit's works are housed in the Jose Rizal Museum in Fort Santiago. It continues to inspire Filipinos who visit the museum.
Gallemit was removed from his home after the cemetery management failed to trace his relatives.
