Agreeing to the petition of Lub. kg Dennis C. Villarojo, Bishop of Malolos, the popular “EDSA image” of Our Lady of Fatima (also known as the National Traveling Image of Our Lady of Fatima) was awarded the Canonical Coronation on behalf of Pope Francis.
The Image is placed in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Valenzuela City. The celebration became more significant because of the attendance of Church and Government Officials. The Holy Mass was led by Lub. kg Charles J. Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, together with the Bishop of Malolos and other Bishops from different Dioceses. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence, Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, also attended the celebration.
In his Homily, Bishop Dennis Villarojo noted that the miracle can not only be attributed to the Image of the Virgin but he himself was a witness to the miracle that occurred during the Peaceful Revolution of EDSA I in February 1986. It will be remembered that today also commemorates the 38th Year Anniversary of ESDA People Power, causing the Canonical Coronation to become Historic.
The Bishop added that the Blessed Virgin asked the Visionaries of Fatima to pray, offer penances and consecration to her Heart for the peace of the whole world — a promise that was fulfilled in EDSA. We can conclude that EDSA is not only a Peaceful revolution but also a Revolution participated in by Prayer. This was witnessed when the Priests, Nuns and religious together with the lay people did not hesitate to kneel and pray the Holy Rosary, including the prayer to restore peace and justice to the Philippine Nation. Indeed, this is proof of the Victory of his Immaculate Heart! The Canonical Coronation is a sign of recognition by the Holy See of the intense devotion of the People of God to the Blessed Virgin. But, it is also a challenge for everyone according to the Bishop, “to obey whatever the will of the Lord is”.
he Parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Valenzuela was presented as the National Shrine of the Philippine Bishops’ Conference (CBCP) in 1976. The Image of Our Lady of Fatima was blessed and granted by the then Pope Paul IV year 1967 and was awarded the title “National Pilgrim Image” by His Eminence, Jaime Cardinal Sin in 1984. It was awarded the Episcopal Coronation by the then Bishop of Malolos, Lub. kg Jose F. Oliveros year 2017. Viva La Virgen! Hail Mary of Fatima!
