Sandigan Kaalaman: HOSANNA, FILIO DAVID – Palm Sunday (03.24.24)

The Domingo de Ramos or Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, and the Last Sunday of Lent. Ss Catholic Church, two important things are commemorated on this day: The Majestic and Triumphant Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as King; and the Passion or Passion of the Lord.

On this day, the Priest blesses the palms or the olive branches while waving, symbolizing that Jesus Christ our Lord and King, will die a martyr, so it is appropriate to call him "King of Martyrs."

In some parishes here in Bulacan, the procession starts with the Visitors first. People hold their Palms in hand. It will be blessed by the Priest and after that the procession will begin. While walking, some elders and women, spread their inherited 'tapes' in the path of the Priest, as if simulating the women on the day Jesus entered Jerusalem. They also build 'booths' where children dressed as angels will stand and scatter flower petals along the way.

These unique traditions and liturgies every Sunday of Ramos prepare the disposition of the faithful for entering the days of Holy Week.
