This Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord, the 58th World Day of Social Communications or World Communication Sunday is also celebrated throughout the Church. When Jesus ascended to heaven, let's remember that we his disciples were sent to preach the Good News of Salvation. In baptism, we are all appointed to carry out this mission especially in today's time when we can all express ourselves in different methods of communication such as social media.
But in a special way, I want to congratulate and thank our church press servants or SOCCOM ministers. This "Sunday of ascension", they will be reassigned to their service through their respective roles. The service you are doing is priceless not only in your Parishes but everywhere your online platforms reach.
Although the church continues to use modern technology for more effective and meaningful communication, Pope Francis reminds us that it still cannot replace the value of personal contact.
In his message this year, Pope Francis focused on the topic: "Artificial Intelligence and the Wisdom of the Heart: Towards a Fully Human Communication". According to him, "Even if technology can quickly spread the Good News of salvation as an information, it is useless and meaningful, without the person who understands and experiences God's saving love."
Nor should the Church be left behind in the rapid development of the world using AI. Just as the world uses it to fulfill their desire, may we as journalists of the Church be even more enthusiastic to promote the sharing of the Word of God with our fellow human beings by also helping us with Artificial Intelligence. The benefit of this technology is in our hands. May it not keep us away from God and each other. Rather, by making the process of our life easier, we become more knowledgeable in the right path of life.
I am Bishop Dennis Villarojo of the Diocese of Malolos wishing everyone who is part of the Commission on Social Communications of our diocese a Happy Celebration of the fifty-eighth International Journalism Day. God bless you all!
