The seventh day of the Novena Mass for the Feast of San Agustin was held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, led by Archbishop Charles John Brown, D.D., Apostolic Nuncio of the Philippines, with Bishop Dennis C. Villarojo, D.D., Bishop of Malolos, in the Diocese Shrine and Parish of San Agustin, City of Baliwag.
The celebration of the Holy Mass also includes the Parish Priest and Rector Fr. Narciso Sampana, Parochial Vicar Fr. Carlo Mendoza, Judicial Vicar of the Diocese Fr. Winniefred Naboya, and Fr. Francis Cortez.
In the homily, he discussed what is the symbol and importance of the Eucharist for us and why it is the reason for the existence of the church. He said in his homily, "But we, as Catholics, have the teaching of the Eucharist at the heart of our faith. That's why we gather today–in anticipation of your feast day of Saint Augustine – to celebrate the Eucharist, to receive the bread of life. Not a symbol of Jesus, but Jesus truly here with us, healing us, strengthening us, pouring his grace into us.”
Also for the first time, Archbishop Brown witnessed to participate in the ceremony of dressing the image of San Agustin. It was held before the Holy Mass began. The ceremony began with the offering of the vestments offered by Sis. Maria Monica Anne Therese R. Tengco and Bro. Jeorge Philip M. Santiago, and the flowers were presented by Sis. Ma. Victoria Rosita Pilar T. Burgos and Bro. Romeo Jose T. Castro. The stole was placed by Sis. Riona Maria Amelita Reynosa T. Castro and Sis. Ma. Victoria Amelita Therese T. Burgos. The cape was worn by Bro. Mark T. Burgos and Bro. Rino V. Castro, while Sis. Maria Janina Tengco-Castro placed the Pectoral Cross. The crozier was placed by Sis. Maria Victoria Tengco-Burgos and Bro. Jose Marco Lito Agustin T. Burgos. Dame Amelita Rodriguez-Tengco bathed in the perfume that gave the image a fragrant fragrance. The ring was worn by Bishop Dennis C. Villarojo, D.D., while the miter was placed by Archbishop Charles Brown, D.D.
Before the end of the Mass, there was a blessing and the so-called Besamanos de San Agustin, the kissing of the hand of the Image of San Agustin. Afterwards, everyone gathered for a grand Augustinian Procession. Misa Novena is held from August 19 to 27 in preparation for the feast of Saint Augustine, which is commemorated every August 28.
