Sandigan Kaalaman: CATECHESIS ON THE PASCHAL TRIDUUM (04.18.25)

"Since Christ accomplished the redemption of humanity and the sacrifice of worship desired by God the Father through the Paschal Mystery of the passage from his great passion to his resurrection from the dead, Christ died to free us from death and rose again to share in the new life and glory of the Father, the holy three-day celebration of his passion and resurrection shines as the culmination of the entire liturgical year. It is fitting to say that what Sunday is for the entire week, Easter Sunday is for the entire year" (General Instruction on the Liturgical Year # 18)

In these days, we commemorate the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, the mission entrusted to him by the Father, to save humanity and to give full praise to God through the Paschal Mystery. By his death he destroyed death and by his resurrection he restored life to us.

This means that the "Triduum" is the three-day celebration that begins with the Mass of the Last Supper on the evening of Holy Thursday and culminates with the Easter Vigil (at midnight on Saturday) and ends with the prayer at dusk on the very day of Easter Sunday.

That is why the Celebrations during these days are called open-ended celebrations, there is no blessing at the end of the celebration until the Easter Vigil or the morning of Easter Sunday when the solemn blessing is held.
