Details of the Funeral and Burial of Pope Francis, set for
The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that the Funeral Mass of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square (4:00 p.m. - Philippine time). The Funeral Mass will be presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, and will be attended by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests from around the world.
The Holy Mass will conclude with the Ultima Commendatio and Valedictio, which signal the beginning of the Novemdiales — the nine days of mourning and Masses for the soul of Pope Francis. The remains of the late Pope will then be taken inside St. Peter's Basilica, and from there will be transported to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for his final resting place.
This Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in Rome (3:00 p.m. in the Philippines), the remains of the Holy Father will be transported from the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter's Basilica for the faithful to pay their respects. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo, will lead the rite of transfer with a prayer. The procession will pass through Santa Marta Square and the Square of the Roman Protomartyrs. It will then exit through the Arch of the Bells into St. Peter's Square and enter the Basilica through the central door. Upon arrival at the Altar of the Confession, the Cardinal Camerlengo will lead the Liturgy of the Word, after which the veneration of the remains of the Holy Father will begin.
St. Peter's Basilica will remain open for those wishing to pay their respects to the late Pope during the following hours:
23 April 2025 - Wednesday: from 11:00 a.m. to midnight
24 April 2025 - Thursday: from 7:00 a.m. to midnight
25 April 2025 - Friday: from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
