Balitang Sandigan: BISHOP VILLAROJO CELEBRATED FEAST OF NUESTRA SEÑORA DE SALUD (11.17.24)

Most Rev. Dennis Villarojo, Bishop of Malolos, celebrated the Mass of the Feast of Nuestra Señora de la Salud on November 17, 2024 at the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino, Quezon City.

At the height of Typhoon Pepito, devotees from different parts of the country attended the said celebration.

This honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly called Mother of Health, was administered by the Agustino Recoleto Sisters, the Cofradia de Transito de Nuestra Señora and the community of the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino.
The newly elected officers of the cofradia led by its president, Bro. Homer Bunyi and there was a rite of welcoming the new members of the Cofradia with the aim of spreading the devotion to Mother Salud. 

Then followed the celebration of honoring the Virgin and the Rite of Despedida back to the convent of the Recoleto Priests.

The image of Nuestra Señora de la Salud or Our Lady of Health arrived in the country in 1634, and since then, many miracles have been attributed to her intercession, including the restoration of peace during the Second Chinese Revolt in 1640. 

First enshrined in San Juan de Bagumbayan and later in the Church of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Intramuros, the Virgin survived the destruction during World War II. Temporarily kept in the Basilica of San Sebastian in Quiapo, it was transferred to the Museum of the Recoletos for more careful preservation until it was installed again in the Church of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Quezon City in 2017. 

Devotion to Mother Salud is no stranger to challenges. But the annual Festival serves as proof of the continued love of the devotees who draw inspiration and hope from the Blessed Mother. The Agustino Recoleto Friars and the Cofradia ensure the continuation of this devotion in future generations.
