Balitang Sandigan: VALUE OF DETACHMENT IN PRIESTS’ LIFE, BISHOP REMINDS AT CLERGY RETREAT (08.22.24)

In his homily on the first day of the Retreat for the clergy of the Diocese of Malolos, Bishop Dennis Villarojo reminded of the importance of “detachment” in the deeper practice of the priesthood.
According to him, “religious practices” such as philanthropy and prayer life are also very important. However, they gain more value if there are tasks, things or relationships to give up for them.

He said, “while religious practices are of much importance, detachment is necessary if we would really want to follow the Lord.” He also gave as an example the use of gadgets and social media monitoring must be set aside first to devote time to prayer.

This became the focus of his meditation on the Gospel in the Holy Mass celebrated in the chapel of St. Scholastica’s Retreat House in Baguio City on August 19, 2024. Meanwhile, some priests of the Diocese of Malolos are also currently in Retreat at St. Scholastica’s Retreat House in Tagaytay City.

The Clergy Retreat will continue until August 22, 2024. This will be the second and last group of clergy to retreat. We look forward to the prayers of the People of God so that this work for the clergy of the Diocese of Malolos will produce honesty and piety.
